With already 15 chapters in its kitty across the country, The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), a non-profit organisation set up by a group of entrepreneurs, is keen to open up more chapters. In Gujarat, while the organisation has a strong presence in cities like Ahmedabad and Vadodara, TiE is mulling opening up more chapters in the state.

"We have around 45 charter members in Ahmedabad, apart from student members. While we are conducting mentoring workshops in other parts of Gujarat, we would like to open up more chapters," said Kaushal Mehta, president of TiE, Ahmedabad chapter, on the sidelines of 'My Story', a speaker series held by the organisation.

Talking about the job and entrepreneurial scenario in the country, R Sriram, president of TiE Mumbai and founder of Crossword Bookstore, said, "The corporate India employs around 10 million, Government of India employs around 20 million and SMEs employ around 30 million. While the job market is growing at 10-15 per cent, currently the population of youngsters below the age group of 14 years and in the range of 15-25 years is 350 million and 250 million, respectively. This shows that there is a huge demand-supply gap in the job scenario and what most of them could go for is entrepreneurship."

Elaborating on the role of TiE, Sriram said that the organisation is not established to incubate but to facilitate budding entrepreneurs. "At TiE, we offer mentoring facilities and guide the budding entrepreneurs. For instance, India's 60 per cent consumption is domestic and even large MNCs are coming down to India to do business. So TiE helps budding entrepreneurs to find such business opportunities and succeed," he added.

Founded in 1992 in Silicon Valley, TiE currently has over 11,000 members and more than 2,500 charter members in 53 chapters across 12 countries.
