Tisco only steel firm to get SA8000

Tata Iron and Steel Company (Tisco) has been conferred the prestigious social accountability (SA) 8000 certification by the US-based Social Accountability International (SAI).

According to a release issued by the company, "Tata Steel is the only steel company in the world to receive this certificate."

SA 8000 certification is a global verifiable standard for managing the workplace in the most effective manner by improving workplace conditions.

Tisco's Sukinda mines became the first mining operation ever to be certified SA 8000 in 2004, the release added.
