After watches, sunglass and jewellery, Titan's latest foray into eyewear business, under the name of Titan Eye+, finally made its entry into eastern region with the launch of its first exclusive Titan Eye+ showroom at Mani Square in Kolkata.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, S Ravi Kant, chief operating officer-eyewear business, Titan Industries Limited (TIL) said, “The aim is to change the face of the eyewear industry in India which is largely dominated by small unorganised players and local optical brands.”

The Titan Eye+ stores would have attached optometry clinics and style consultancy unit to provide free test and prescription. Titan had a memorandum of understanding with Chennai-based Sankara Nethralaya to provide training to optical store personnel.

Such stores had been launched in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Nagpur and Kolkata's store was the twentieth.

TIL aimed to open around 200 such Titan Eye+ showrooms in three years with around 10 stores in West Bengal within this fiscal, said Kant.

Five would come up before Puja at Camac Street, Elgin Road, CIT road, Behala and Shyambazar, said Krishanu Moitra, business manager-East, TIL.

The stores offered browse-select-buy format along with a style consultancy, a range of foreign brands of frames and eyewear besides Titan's own brands, priced between Rs350 and Rs 40000, said Kant.

TIL reported turnover of Rs 3046 crore last year from its watch and jewellery businesses.
