To jointly bid for JNPT fourth container terminal

Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) in consortium with an international player has submitted its expression of interest to build and operate Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust's Rs 4,500 crore, fourth container terminal, a top official said.
 
SCI is expected to hold a majority stake in the consortium.
 
"Operating margins are much better in the container terminal business compared to the shipping business," the official said.
 
SCI also has plans to foray into land-based logistics business including operating railway container movement and setting up of container freight stations.
 
The company's shares closed at Rs 136.45 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1.3 per cent over Thursday.
