Torrent eyes foreign tie-ups in NCE push

 The company, which posted a turnover of Rs 305 crore for 2002-03, is looking at the international generics market as a growth engine.

 Torrent, which is currently working on seven discovery projects, has cumulatively filed 124 patents for NCEs from these projects in all the major markets abroad. Of this, the US, Japan, Europe, Czech Republic, Russia and India have granted 12 patents thus far.

 As part of a four-pronged strategy, the company will focus on Russia and CIS countries, Brazil and Latin America, Europe and lastly, rest of the world comprising less regulated countries of Africa and Asia.

 Torrent will cater to the European market through its recently incorporated subsidiary, Torrent Pharma GmbH (TPG), while it will serve the Brazilian market through another subsidiary, Torrent Do Brasin Ltda (TDBL) and Russia will be served through ZAO Torrent Pharma (ZAO TP), Russia.
