Torrent Pharma, Chinese firm in cardiac drug deal

Torrent Pharma on Wednesday announced that it has entered into an agreement with Tasly, one of China's largest pharmaceutical companies, to exclusively market its blockbuster drug, Cardiotonic pill, in India.
 
Cardiotonic is sold in 13 countries worldwide, including the USA. The USFDA-approved drug has global sales of $360 million, with $30 million sales in the USA alone. Besides, it is the highest selling single medicine in China, with sales of over $160 million.
 
The Ahmedabad-based Rs 1,033 crore Torrent Pharma expects to scale up its topline of around Rs 20 crore within two years of the launch of the Chinese drug.
 
Cardiotonic is a novel oral droplet formulation, based on traditional chinese medicine, used for the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, like Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), diabetes and hypertension. It is made from a unique combination of pure extracts of three Chinese medicinal herbs "" Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Radix Notoginseng and Bormel.
 
Cardiotonic is manufactured with modern pharmaceutical technology and strict quality control procedures. The innovative droplet pill formulation offers many clinical advantages.
