Toyota Kirloskar Motor today reported 6.76% increase in domestic car sales at 19,452 units in March 2013.

The company had sold 18,220 units in the corresponding month of last year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said in a statement.

During the month, the company exported 1,691 units of Etios series, and hence the total sales registered in March this year stood at 21,143 units.

Commenting on sales, TKM Deputy Managing Director and COO (Marketing and Commercial) Sandeep Singh said: "Despite the slow demand in market, we have registered growth. This growth can be mainly attributed to high customer acceptance of the new models of Etios and Etios Liva, launched recently."

The company sold a total of 8,637 units of the Etios and Etios Liva models in March, he added.

"Increase in excise duty of SUVs and implementation of increased road tax in some of the states have helped clear the stock of pre-budget vehicles. The market continues to be slow and is expected to remain sluggish in the coming months," Singh said.
