The managing director (MD) of Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited (TKML) Astushi Toyoshima, on Tuesday said that the Innova had registered sales of 252 units in Indore alone, which was 68 per cent of all the units sold in MP.

During his maiden visit to the city Toyoshima said, the car's sales in the western region had crossed 5000 units. He further added that the car had grabbed 47 per cent market share.

"INNOVA conveys a dream by selling a lifestyle," said Toyoshima. He said, the car had created a unique category for itself by attracting both, passenger car buyers and multi purpose vehicle (MPV) customers, which was the reason of its popularity.

When asked whether the Qualis would be phased out, Toyoshima said, every vehicle had its own life and cars were introduced keeping in mind the economic conditions, environmental needs and safety requirements.

Therefore, a variant capable of penetrating the passenger segment was introduced, instead of modifying the Qualis, which was there to stay.

Toyoshima said that by 2010, every Toyota car would conform to the advanced Euro-IV standard.

Explaining the decision on taking Amir Khan as the brand ambassador for the company he said, "Khan was a natural choice, as his qualities of perfection, innovation, versatility and performance match that of the car."

He further added that Khan was the first Asian to be taken as a brand ambassador, after Brad Pitt and Britney Spears, in order to penetrate the Indian psyche and capture the vast market.
