As a part of its ongoing Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) running in Industrial Training Institutes across the country Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) today introduced a training model for 'body and paint repair' at Kubernagar ITI in the outskirts of Ahmedabad.

Toyota has been running the T-TEP programme at the Kubernagar ITI since 2007 and since then around 100 students have been trained. Speaking about the initiative, Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director, marketing, TKM, said, “The Indian automobile industry has been growing at a rapid pace. This has generated the need for a pool of skilled manpower. The gap currently existing between the supply and ever increasing demand for skilled manpower, will only widen with this growth. We have now introduced a special course on Body and Paint Repair. This would in turn create skilled technicians for the Body and Paint Repair industry, a largely unorganised segment of the automobile service industry”. TKM plans to introduce this program to technical institutes across the countries in the coming years and reach out to over 700 students per year.

The “Body and Paint Repair Syllabus” focuses on enhancing specific skills required for body and paint repair. The syllabus has been developed in collaboration with the department of training and technical education, state government. With this special program, TKM intends to enhance the technical abilities and employability of ITI students in the age group of 16 to 18 years. The students will also receive, on-the-job training, at Toyota’s dealerships. As a part of this program, TKM will also train institute instructors in the latest technology, used at Toyota and the automobile industry. The programme is run in association with Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan, and TKM's dealers across India. T-TEP was launched in 2006 in the country. In a span of five years, 18 institutes have been covered under the program. In its first year, the program was implemented in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hubli. The program was subsequently introduced in Bangalore, Pune, Cochin, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Ghaziabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Indore and Mumbai.
