Toyota Kirloskar Motor will be investing Rs 275 crore to expand the capacity of its second plant on the outskirts of Bangalore that manufactures Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback, a company official said.
“We will expand the capacity of our second plant on the outskirts of Bangalore from the present 70,000 units to 120,000 units. The total investment for that will be Rs.275 crore. The expansion will be complete by second quarter of 2012,” Sailesh Shetty, vice president for sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said here on the occasion of launch of Etios Liva hatchback here.
The company's first plant which is also located on the outskirts of Bangalore, has a total capacity of 90,000 units.
Shetty also said that the expected combined sales of Etios and Liva this year would be around 60,000 while the company has sold 21,000 units of the Etios sedan which was launched December last year.
Given the popularity of the diesel models in the wake of spiralling prices of petrol, the company will also have plans to go for diesel version of both the models in future.“We are ready with the diesel technology. We will come up with the diesel versions of Etios sedan and linva at appropriate time. Cureently we want to establish the petrol version first,” he added.
