Toyota to ramp up production of Fortuner

To cater to the growing demand for its SUV Fortuner and clear the backlog, Toyota Kirloskar Motors Private Ltd (TKML) plans to increase its production capacity to 1,000 units per month by next month. Initially, the company started with 500 units per month and gradually increased the capacity as per the demand and expects to manufacture 950 units in January 2010.

Speaking to Business Standard, TKML Deputy MDSandeep said: “We got overwhelming response for Fortuner, which was launched in August 2009. Already we have sold 3,154 units till December and we have bookings for 6,500 units. Gradually, we have increased the manufacturing capacity of Fortuner to cater to the demand and further to clear the backlog. Our production capacity will reach 950 units in January and further we have plans to increase it to 1,000 units by February 2010.” The company has also started bookings for the SUV which was stopped due to capacity constraints.
