"We will put our proposals (against the move) on July 24 in a meeting in Delhi between the managing committees of all our associations and airlines. If negotiations fail, we will resort to extreme steps and may stop selling airline tickets," Business and Pleasure Travel World CEO Sunil Bijlani sadi.
No airline in any city of the country has the infrastructure to handle all customers.
Airlines seem to forget that of the total annual turnover of Rs 33,000 crore, travel agents contribute around 85 per cent of it for all airlines operating out of India, Avesta Travel and Tours Managing Manging Director Marzban Antia said.
"We, agents, market the airline products. We have no financial security cover whereas the airlines insist on financial security by way of a bank guarantee or insurance for which we pay a premium," he said.
The move to slash commission of agents will not only impact them but will also affect the travel industry and the end-consumer, he added.
