Trial run at airport's new terminal

The swanky new domestic terminal at the Biju Patnaik airport in the city had a successful trial run on Thursday with the landing of Air India flight- AI 9604 from Port Blair carrying about 20 passengers.

“The trial run is successfully completed at the arrival terminal and the departure terminal is likely to be completed by November-end. The terminal will be inaugurated by December end,” said Sharad Kumar, director - Airports Authority of India (AAI)-Bhubaneswar.

The new terminal with a total built-up area of around 200,000 sq ft at a cost of around Rs 100 crore is centrally air-conditioned with peak hour capacity of 800 passengers.

 

At the newly built terminal, there are provisions for 18 check-in-counters, four lifts, two escalators, two aero-bridges and security hold seating capacity for 600 passengers at a time.

Three CIP (commercially important person) lounges and two VIP lounges are also planned at the new terminal.

For fast clearance of baggage with minimum waiting time, three arrival conveyors each of 250 feet claim length have also been built.

Parking area for 400 cars/taxis and 10 coaches in addition to existing facility has also been facilitated.

For conserving the rain water, six rain water harvesting tanks have been constructed.
