Truecaller targets user base of 150 mn in India by 2015-end

Currently the company has 80 million users in India

Truecaller said that it hopes to increase its user base in India to 150 million users by end of 2015. The company offers service for free and said it would continue to do so.

Kari Krishnamurthy, vice president, growth and partnership - Asia, country manager - India, Truecaller said that currently the company has 80 million users in India.

He claimed that one in two smartphones Truecaller is installed in India. Currently globally it has set a target of 300 million users globally.

The company says on the backdrop of increasing spam messages and calls, it sees good potential in India. He noted in India alone Truecaller identifies 900 million calls a month, of which 122 million are spams and one in seven calls are spam.

Similarly, 15% of the messages an user gets are spam messages in India.

Truecaller got two products including Truecaller and Truedialer and two weeks before it has launched Truemessenger, only for the Indian markets and hopes to launch it in the coming months in other parts of the World.
 

Krishnamurthy said that after six months it would think about monetisation. The company raised $80 million from three venture capital firms including Atomico, Kleiner Perkins and Sequioa Capital.
