TS Interseats plant in Kolar

T S Interseats India Pvt Ltd, a part of the Thailand-based automotive seats manufacturer, T S Inter Seats Co Ltd (TSIS), has proposed to set up a unit for manufacturing two-wheeler seats, motorcycle parts and accessories at Vemagal Industrial Area in Kolar district. The company will invest Rs 177 crore on the new plant which will have a capacity of 1.4 million two-wheeler seats per annum.

Karnataka recently approved the company’s proposal to set up the plant which will supply two-wheeler seats and other accessories to Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Ltd (HMSI). HMSI is setting up its new two-wheeler plant at Narasapur near Bangalore at an initial investment of Rs 1,300 crore.

 

According to Karnataka Udyog Mitra (KUM) officials, the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) would allot 20 acres to TS Interseats at Vemagal. The company is expected to generate jobs to 514 persons at the plant.

“The investment proposal of TS Interseats is the largest among over 15 vendors approved by the State government recently. They are setting up their unit along with HMSI in Narasapur and Vemagal industrial areas. Honda Motorcycle and Scooters is planning to start the manufacture of its two-wheelers from next year and it has asked all its vendors to set up their units within a year,” a KUM official told Business Standard. The company could not be reached for comments.

The government has also agreed to extend the infrastructure facilities and several other incentives and concessions. The KIADB has also agreed to supply 30,700 litres per day water. However, the company will have to obtain environmental approvals from ministry of environment and forests and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board. It has also been asked to provide jobs to the local people, provide them training as per the provisions of Industrial policy of government of Karnataka.

Among other conditions put by the government include preparation of vendor development plan for the local vendors. The government has also asked the company to adopt rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, and water conservation Techniques and zero discharge facility.

TS Interseat has already set up a joint venture company in Delhi and operates a manufacturing plant. It supplies two-wheeler seats and accessories to TVS Motors, Hero Motors, HMSI, Max Motors and Yamaha among others.

TS Interseat is one of the largest motorcycle seat manufacturers in Thailand. The seat manufacturing process is vertically integrated and it produces almost all the components from stamping parts, bottom plate and foam to assembly in-house.
