Digitisation of television has benefitted English channels by expanding their reach in the country.

“With digitisation, the English channels of different genres have got a deeper penetration to smaller towns beyond the metros,” AXN Networks India business head Sunil Punjabi told Business Standard.

In India, the digitisation process has started in phases and set top box is becoming mandatory for television viewing, either through direct to home (DTH) or digitised cable mediums.

“Our viewer ship has shown marked improvement from 3,00,000 to about 1.3 million now,” he informed.

He, however, said advertising revenue of English channels was still low compared to Hindi channels. AXN is part of Sony Pictures Entertainment Company.
