UGS, a global player in the product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). |
The MoU envisages setting up PLM labs in affiliated engineering colleges of VTU across Karnataka. |
The agreement will enable affiliated colleges of VTU to access PLM software tools from UGS, covering areas like computer aided design, manufacturing and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE). |
In addition to providing software tools, UGS will work closely with the VTU in preparing customised course content aligned with global industry practices. |
UGS will also conduct specialised 'train-the-trainer' programmes to faculty members of the affiliated colleges. VTU will lay special emphasis on equipping engineering students with knowledge and skills that will enhance their value to industry. |
VTU will also leverage the PLM labs for promotion of 'Industry-University' partnership to fuel innovation, which is the key to a sustained industrial growth in India. |
Said K Balaveera Reddy, vice-chancellor, VTU: "With this pact, we will, by providing access to the same software tools used by leading manufacturing companies worldwide, be able to expose our students to current global best practices in product development processes." |
"India is amongst the fastest growing economies of the world, with a very significant engineering and manufacturing sector, whose biggest competitive advantage is the skilled technical manpower. The agreement allows us to put our software tools in manufacturing, engineering and design software into the hands of students, enabling them to develop the skills required by the Indian companies, while they compete in a globalised economy," said Hans Kurt Luebberstedt, executive vice-president, UGS-Asia/Pacific. |
