Alistair Darling, British secretary of state for trade and industry, is on a 3-day India visit, accompanied by a high profile business delegation, in a bid to boost bilateral trade, talk on the next steps on world trade and taking forward the energy and climate change agenda.

"Protection to the domestic services sector needs to go if India wants the best of globalisation...India is one of the great opportunities for British business. With the economy growing at 8% a year, it is one we cannot afford to miss," Darling said.

Industry representatives, who are here as part of a 150-strong British delegation, will lobby with New Delhi to open up the financial and legal services sectors to foreign investments.
