United Breweries Q1 net up 100%

United Breweries has posted a net profit of Rs 27.53 crore for the first quarter-ended June 30, 2006 up nearly 100% from the Rs 13.83 crore during the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. Net sales too have risen 19% to Rs 193.34 crore.

According to the company, there has been a 23% volume growth during the quarter as a result of regulatory changes in north Indian states which resulted in an explosive growth in demand in the region. Opening of new outlets and pipeline filling has resulted in a one-off growth of 77%.

Growth in strong beer continues to be the key driver with an industry growth of 28.8% as compared to that of last year. Kingfisher Strong grew at 41%, while Kingfisher Mild grew at 18% against an industry growth of 20.4%.
