UP gives push to setting up unrefined sugar plants to help cane farmers

To insulate sugarcane farmers from the cyclical nature of the domestic sugar sector and boost village-based industries, the Yogi Adityanath government is encouraging the production of unrefined sugar.  

Khandsari is unrefined raw sugar derived from thickened sugarcane syrup. It is deemed healthier than refined and chemically treated sugar, which is widely sold in the retail market. 

Besides, the state is also promoting setting up of gur (jaggery) units and reviving defunct ones.
