UTV invests Rs 24 cr for Mumbai studio

UTV, the media and entertainment company, has invested Rs 24 crore for setting up an animating facility at its Andheri Studio.

With this investment, the company is creating a facility over 25,000 sq ft -equipped for high definition (HD) work for its clients in North America and Europe. The facility has 225 workstations with blade render farms and Max software.

Currently, the company has work output for 15 movies for direct-to-home video of international classics, plus a 52 episode TV series in addition to 20 short series. The facility operates 24X7 with a built up capacity to execute over 150 minutes of high quality animation a month in 3D.

Ronald Demello, COO, UTV said, "We believe we are executing the single largest work flow out of Indian and our excellence in 2D and now in 3D has been acknowledged by our growing repeat customer base from Disney and Fox to Cine Group and Saban."

Adds Ronnie Screwvala, CEO, UTV said, "In 18 months, our focus was to emerge a clear leader out of South Asia and not just for service outsourcing but for origination of content."

Screwvala also added that in the next 60 days, he would announce the production of two animation movies for the local market and primarily for Asian audiences but with an appeal for a growing cross-over audience too.
