Vatva GIDC to be model estate for vision 2010

Saving water and electricity as well as creating eco-friendly environment would be the top priority during infrastructure development.

The office bearers of the Vatva Industrial Estate, along with Gujarat energy development association (GEDA), would undertake energy efficiency study and take suitable steps accordingly. Besides, high-end waste management system is being developed, so that environment should not have any adverse impact.

 

Kirit Patel, president, Vatva Industrial Association told Business Standard, "The work for infrastructure upgradation is in full swing. We have paid special attention to save energy wherever there is a possibility, whether it is in form of liquid, solid, gas or fuel.

At present, the work for modernization of CETP, gypsum washrise plant, solid waste along with roads and water drainage is going on and all the norms of pollution control have been observed very strictly. Out of 56 km long road, work for almost 25 km is complete."

Patel's team had visited Mahindra World City at Chennai, Netaji Apparel Park, Tirupur and Electronic City, Bangalore before taking up the upgradation project.

Apart from 65 per cent work related to road and storm water, 55 per cent work of domestic sewage has also been completed. Gypsum washrise is 70 per cent completed and delivery of 90 per cent equipments has been received.

To transform the estate into a model, facilities like internal roads, street lights, compound wall, paid parking area, six entrance gates, general hospital, public toilet, public transport facility, workers' canteen, bus and auto rickshaw stand would be created.

Besides, the estate would have new facilities such as warehouse, cold storage, gas station, post office, fire station and testing laboratory and water from the Narmada would also be made available, sources said.

The Vatva Industrial Estate is spread over 522 hectares and houses nearly 2,200 small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The export from the units located in this estate is around Rs 200 crore annually.
