Indian venture capitalists (VCs) and private equity (PE) firms are likely to invest Rs 4,500 crore in the education sector over the next three years, a survey of industry body Assocham said today.

"Education sector is one of the most lucrative sectors in the booming Indian economy. PE and VC firms have gauged the potential of this sector and are willing to partner with government to facilitate access to quality education for all," Assocham said.

Out of the 1,000 PE and VC firms which participated in the survey, about 55% said that the Indian education sector has huge potential to grow and they are planning huge investments in the area.

"As many as 550 respondents said they reckon education is a profitable sector with a potential to attract huge investments," it said.

However, the survey said that lack of clarity on the education policy and land issues are big hurdles for the sector.
