The Videocon Group is keen on developing infrastructure in Punjab and has plans to set up 1,000-Mw power plant in the state at an investment of Rs 5,000 crore. In this regard, Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot will meet Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal very soon.
Dhoot said, “We are interested in developing infrastructure in Punjab. We have plans to set up 1,000 Mw thermal power plant in the state, which will attract an investment of Rs 5,000 crore. Very soon I am going to meet Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and will discuss the proposal.”
At present, the group is setting up three thermal power plants aggregating 5,000 Mw in Gujarat, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. The group through its SPV, Pipavava Energy Pvt Ltd is setting up coal-based super critical thermal power project near Pipavav port in Gujarat.
In Punjab, already 3 private players have been awarded tender for setting up three thermal plants in the state. These are Sterlite Energy, which is setting up a 1,980 Mw thermal plant at Talwandi Sabo, 540 Mw Goindwal Sahib Thermal Power Plant by GVK Power and 1,320 Mw Rajpura Thermal Power Plant by Larsen & Toubro.
