Consumer electronics and hardware retail chain Next will expand its range of IT products and will undertake a non-metro push to reach places where there is a potential to sell IT products.

The retail arm of consumer electronics major Videocon is planning new products such as telecom gadgets and IT software as the company plans a store base of 500 by the middle of this year.

Vivek Paliwal, head of IT at Next Retail India, said: "Currently, 237 of our 270 stores sell IT products and consumer electronics and appliances and we want to increase this number."

He said Maharashtra would have 15 more outlets in 2008, in Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad and other cities.

Paliwal said the company was setting up a line of products in the telecom segment, including GSM cellphone handsets and other gadgets.
