Videocon's Unity Appliances to set up Rs 1,600 cr unit in TN

Consumer durables firm Videocon would invest Rs 1,600 crore under its new subsidiary Unity Appliances to set up a manufacturing facility in the state of Tamil Nadu at Manamadurai in Sivaganga District.

The decision was taken at the discussion held between Videocon India President Venugopal Dhoot and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, a government release said.

The plant would come up on a 70 acre land which would generate direct employment to 1,000 people, it said.

The first phase of production was expected to commence by April 2010, the statement added.

Videocon's investment is a part of the State government's efforts to ensure more industrial investments in southern districts of the state.
