Consumer durable firm Videocon International has firmed up plans to invest Rs 100 crore in West Bengal. This was discussed at a meeting held here between Videocon group chairman Venugopal Dhoot and chief minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. |
Videocon is also setting up a state-of-the-art cricket academy in Kolkata to encourage local talent. "We are not only investing Rs 100 crore in a new plant, but are also investing in people by setting up the academy," said Dhoot. |
According to Dhoot, the plant will add 500 jobs in West Bengal. The group has recently celebrated its five-year presence in the Salt Lake City. It had invested Rs 100 crore in the state till date. Videocon has 18 manufacturing facilities all over India and in Italy and Oman. |
The company enjoys a strong presence in the market with CTVs, high-end audio systems, VCDs, DVDs, DVD Tvs, internet TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators and microwave ovens. |
Videocon markets its products in south-east Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa. |
It is targeting a turnover of Rs 7,000 crore this year. |
The Center for Monitoring Indian Economy has ranked West Bengal second in terms of investment projects commissioned/completed in the financial year 2000-2001. |
The state had also bagged the fifth place in terms of projects commissioned/completed in the last three fiscal years (1998-99 to 2000-01). |
