Vijaya Dairy income up 7%

The Krishna District Milk Products Mutually Aided Cooperative Union Ltd (Vijaya Dairy) earned Rs 38.11 crore income in the third quarter of December 31, 2006, up 7.38 per cent, as against Rs 35.49 crore in the same period last year.
 
According to T Babu Rao, managing director of the union, the dairy recorded a 2.38 per cent rise in turnover at Rs 109 crore during the first three quarters of this financial year as against Rs 106 crore pooled in the same quarters of 2005-06.
 
The dairy would introduce in the market a new ice-cream 'Kulfi' on the Telugu New Year's Day. The number of milk cooperatives with 1,29,872 member-farmers, forming the union, has reached 638 in 976 villages in the district.
 
The union procured on an average 1,98,969.5 kg milk per day in the third quarter of the current year. This stood at 2,16,985.5 kg per day during the same quarter last financial year.
 
While the target for milk procurement this year had been fixed at 1,97,000 kg per day, the achievement had so far been at 1,77,020 kg per day. However, the procurement increased to 1,98,967.5 kg per day in the third quarter of the year and is expected to increase further in the last quarter.
 
The union sold 1,366.32 tonne of ghee, 362.88 tonne of white butter, 701.88 tonne of skimmed milk powder (SMP), 12,59,927 litre packs and 4,46,863 (200 ml) packs of standardised milk, and 20,32,297 one litre packs and 2,03,104 (200 ml) packs of sterilised cream in Q3.
 
The dairy also marketed 1,80,096 (100 ml) packs and 10,74,406 (200 ml) packs of low fat milk (LFM), 3,50,805 litre packs and 44,972 (200 ml) packs of toned milk and 2,82,602 (200 ml) packs of cow milk.
 
The other products, which found customers in the third quarter, included doodhpeda (34,483.63 kg), unsweet khara (82,67,000 kg), 200 ml packs of buttermilk (58,87,990), 200 ml lassi packs (2,96,708), 200 gm packs of badam mix powder (4,400.40 kg), and paneer (60,217 kg).
 
About 68,54,043 packs of 100 ml curd, 41,638 packs of 200 ml curd and 91,311 packs of 500 ml curd, 4,61,162 packs of 50 gm basundi, 10,730.5 kg of milk cake, 2,17,975 packs of 200 ml special fat milk and 5,428.75 kg dates khara were also marketed during the quarter.
