Visakhapatnam-based medical transcription company, VIS Infotech Private Limited, is aiming for a $10-million turnover for the year 2008-09. Last fiscal, the company achieved a turnover of $4 lakh and in current year expects it at $1 million.

"From the next fiscal, the company would undertake medical billing and EMR (electronic medical record) business too and, therefore, we are eyeing a turnover of $10 million," said RV Prasad, managing director, VIS Infotech. The company currently depends only on medical transcription business.

VIS Infotech has started a subsidiary, Vision Info LLC, at Arizona State in the US, to source medical transcription business from different clients. The American company gathers work from a group of doctors and hospitals, and outsources it to VIS Infotech, he said.

From the next fiscal, the company would source medical billing and EMR business and provide information technology support to the American doctors, he added. Currently, it has only 15 clients, and expects this number to increase to around 40 in the next fiscal.

The company is planning to train housewives and provide them with attractive opportunity in a bid to tackle manpower crisis.

"We would give a three-month free training to qualified housewives and also provide them computers with relevant software free of cost, on the condition that they serve the company at least for three years," he said.

The company would provide medical transcription works to these housewives, who can work from home and earn up to 15,000 per month, he added. VLS' present headcount is only 70, which it plans to increase to 200 over the next three-four months.
