Visa Steel has resumed operations of its Steel Melt Shop (SMS), ladle refining furnace , vacuum degassing and rolling mill at its Kalinganagar project in Odisha's Jajpur district after a prolonged shutdown.
Due to acute scarcity of raw material availability at viable prices, depressed steel market and shortage of working capital, the company was not able to operate its SMS, ladle refining furnace, vacuum degassing and rolling mill for a considerable period. Consequent to improved availability of raw material and after renovation of its blast furnace and DRI kilns, the company has resumed operations.
The company intends to make special steel long products by using hot metal from its blast furnace and DRI from its sponge iron plant. The special steel products include bars & wire rods for the auto components, railways & defence sectors.
Visa Steel chairman Visambhar Saran, vice chairman and managing director Vishal Agarwal, director (Kalinganagar) Manoj Kumar and other company executives were present at the time of resumption of operations last Monday.
The company currently holds 475 acres of land at the site where it already operates 0.55 million tonne per annum (mtpa) steel plant.
