Sri Vijaya Visakha Milk Producers Company (Visakha Dairy), the largest cooperative dairy in Andhra Pradesh, has increased the selling price of milk by Rs 2 a litre. The new rate comes into effect from today.
Giving reasons for increasing the price, D Venkata Rao, managing director of Visakha Dairy, said, “We have increased the procurement price of milk by Rs 3 a litre as farmers in this region had lost their crops in the recent heavy rains.” The milk will cost Rs 28 per litre while farmers get Rs 22 for a litre now. Stating that milk procurement this year had fallen significantly as compared with the last financial year due to the heavy rains and unfavorable weather conditions, he said the procurement price would rise by another Rs 3 per litre by March.
