With the new terminal building ready, the Visakhapatnam airport expects to start international flight services from March onwards.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has spent about Rs 97 crore on the construction of the new terminal building, which would be inaugurated on February 20.

The terminal building has three aero bridges, 20 airlines counters, parking facility for 600 cars and a capacity to handle 700 passengers per hour.

“Foreign airlines like Silk Air and Air Lanka have evinced interest in operating direct international flights from Vizag to Sri Lanka and Singapore. The new international terminal building has customs and immigration facilities so we expect international flights operations from March,” Varadha Reddy, president, Air Travelers Association of India, told Business Standard.

Around 14 flights land at Vizag daily. Indian Airlines, JetLite, Kingfisher, Paramount and SpiceJet operate their services from Vizag to Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.
