VO Chidambaranar Port plans projects worth Rs 1,531 cr this fiscal

Plans include development of cargo berths to handle coal, general cargo and clean cargo

V O Chidambaranar Port Trust, Tuticorin, is expected to implement expansion projects worth Rs 1531.31 crore, resulting in a capacity addition of 44 million tonne during the year, according to a senior official from the company.

In his Independence Day message, S Anantha Chandra Bose, chairman, V O Chidambaranar Port Trust, stated that during the fiscal 2016-17, the port has targeted to award the development of a shallow draught berth to handle general cargo, north cargo berth-III to handle coal and the development of north cargo berth- IV to handle containers and clean cargo.

It will also see the installation of a 5MW solar power plant, construction of a truck parking terminal, upgradation of coal jetty I and II, construction of shallow draught berth to handle construction material, and the deployment of additional harbour mobile cranes at the third and fourth berths.
