Vodafone joins hands with Teri to reduce carbon footprint

British telecom major has invested more than Rs 56,000 crore in India so far

The country’s second largest telecom carrier by subscriber base Vodafone India, on Thursday, said it has tied up with The Energy and Resources Institute (Teri) to work towards reducing carbon footprint.

The British telecom major, which has invested more than Rs 56,000 crore in India so far, said environment care will be one of its key initiatives that would include social empowerment and education in rural areas, regions where most of its 150 million subscribers live.

The tie up will further embed and promote sustainability in Vodafone India’s operations and initiatives, said Vodafone India’s chief operating officer Sunil Sood.

The areas of engagement between Vodafone India and Teri include strategic advisory and knowledge sharing, energy conservation and carbon footprint reduction for greener telecom.
 

Besides, they would jointly explore opportunities to jointly build advocacy and promote the cause and purpose of sustainability in the public domain, the company said in a statement.

“We will continue to partner with government and the developmental sector to make meaningful contributions for the social and economic development of our country,” Marten Pieters, managing director and CEO, Vodafone India said in a statement.
Vodafone has been publishing its sustainability report since 2010 that covers issues like corporate responsibility and sustainability performance.
