Vodafone to start 4G service in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore from Dec

The timing coincides with the launch time of Reliance Jio

Vodafone India, country’s second largest telecom operator in terms of revenue, today announced to launch fourth generation (4G) network services in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore starting December this year.

“In the first six months of the current financial year, Vodafone has already rolled out over 1000 sites and invested more than Rs 500 crores in Mumbai (to roll out the 4G service), “ the firm said in a statement today.

The mobile carrier about a month ago had talked about rolling out 4G network in five circles staring December.

 

Mumbai, with around 30% of data revenues is one of the top mobile internet markets for Vodafone in India. The five circles where it would be launching 4G, comprises about half of data revenue it makes.

Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Karnataka and Kerala are the circles where it will be lunching 4G in the first phase. The timing coincides with the launch time of Reliance Jio, which is the only carrier to have license for pan Indian 4G roll out.

At present only Airtel, India’s top mobile operator,  provides 4G services in nine circles, where is holds the spectrum.  Third biggest mobile service provide Idea Cellular has announced to complete rollout of 4G services by June 2016.
