GM India's new MD

Saxena was with Volkswagen for just 18 months, having joined company in 2012

Arvind Saxena has quit as managing director of  Volkswagen Passenger Cars India to join General Motors (GM) India as president and managing director.

He was a member of the board, Volkswagen Group Sales India. Earlier, he was head of sales, Hyundai Motor India.

Saxena, set to step into his role on Saturday, will succeed Lowell Paddock, moving to GM International Operations as vice-president (planning & programme management). Stefan Jacoby, GM executive vice-president and president, GM International Operations, said, “We are delighted to have Arvind join our team and, with his extensive experience, lead us into a successful future in India.”
 

Saxena has more than two decades of experience in sales, marketing and management at several Indian and global automakers. He began his career in 1983, as an area manager in Escorts’ motorcycles and scooters’ division, before joining Bajaj Auto in 1992. At Bajaj, he was regional manager (north India).

Three years later, he joined Maruti Udyog as regional manager (western India). After a few years, he quit for a year’s stint as general manager of Fiat India (1999), before returning to Maruti as general manager (sales).

Later, he was promoted to chief general manager (sales).

Arvind has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College and a master’s degree in business administration from Lucknow University.
