Volvo-Eicher JV expands product portfolio

Volvo-Eicher Commercial Vehicles Limited (VECV) a 50-50 joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited on Friday expanded its product portfolio with the launch of skyline bus Eicher 20.15, the first ever 14T truck in India-Eicher 11.14 and the toughest tipper in its segment the Terra 25. The company also launched new 14-tonne truck with a price tag of Rs 12.80 lakh and a tipper at Rs 24.70 lakh, at showrooms in Pune.

The skyline buses are available in the 12 T and 15T platforms. The Eicher Skyline Range now extends from 32 Seats to 65 Seats Capacity.

 

G Sekar, senior vice-president, sales and marketing at VE Commercial Vehicles, said, "Eicher today has transformed itself into a complete CV manufacturer with a wide product range from 5t to 40t GVW trucks and 15 to 65-seater buses. Introduction of new products further consolidates Eicher's position as one of the top players in the Indian CV market. Pune has been a key market for Eiche, which has shown consistent growth in volume and market share."

G Sekar said that the company is also expanding its dealership network in Pune with Talwar Auto. Talwar Auto will set up three outlets in Pune.

VECV is investing over Rs 750 crore in two facilities in Madhya Pradesh. It is setting up a power train manufacturing unit in Pithampur with the investment of Rs 500 crore which will produce Volvo five and eight-litre engines for Volvo. These will be four and six-cylinder diesel engines. The plant will go on stream in July 2013 and will have the capacity to manufacture 100,000 units per annum. The domestic requirements would also be met from this capacity.

The company is also setting up a bus manufacturing plant at Dhar near Indore.

It will have a capacity to produce 10,000 buses when fully operational. The multi model bus manufacturing plant would produce light, medium and heavy duty buses including the rear engine semi low floor buses catering to the requirements of the school, staff, city and intercity segments. With the existing engine capacity of 60,000 units manufactured by Eicher for its trucks and buses, the total engine capacity will be 160,000 units by 2016-17.
