Volvo sets up tech centre

Volvo India's new technology centre was inaugurated in Bangalore on Tuesday. The centre will support Volvo Group's activities in the areas of IT and truck development.

The facility was inaugurated by Eric Leblanc, managing director, Volvo India, Ulf Nilsson, CEO, Volvo IT and Anders Ydergard, senior vice president, Volvo 3P product development.

Volvo's IT division in India focusses on providing IT services to the Volvo Group, Volvo Car Corporation and other external customers and is also the hub for Asia.

It provides extensive application management and infrastructure support across Volvo's business areas including global dealer business support functions, build up of SAP competence, IT infrastructure and product lifecycle management, the company said.

Volvo 3P, a business unit within the Volvo Group, will now focus on building India as a base for truck product development aimed at supporting strategic expansion in Asia, while Volvo IT will increase its local sourcing from India as well as support its growing customers business in the country.
