VW to hike Vento diesel variant price by Rs 20,317

German auto-major Volkswagen today increased the price of the Vento diesel variant due to the rise in input costs. According to a company release, the price would be hiked 2.2% effective July 1. The petrol variants, however, will see no increase in price.

All customers who book the Vento Diesel variant until June 30 will be able to avail the car without the price increase while those who opt for selected variants of the Vento Petrol variant will be able to get the car at a reduced interest rate of 6.99% starting June 2011, said the release. Launched in September 2010, the Vento has already sold 23,649 units as of May 2011, it added.

 

Currently, the diesel variant is available at a price range between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 9.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), while the petrol version in tagged at a range of Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 9.22 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Manufactured at the Volkswagen plant in Chakan, the Vento is the European automobile major’s first car to also be designed specifically for the Indian market.

Commenting on this, Neeraj Garg, member of board & director, Volkswagen passenger cars, Volkswagen group sales India, said: “The Vento diesel has been well accepted in the market since its launch in September 2010. We want to continue maintaining the same standard and quality for our customers; however we have seen no relent in the input costs over several months now which has forced us to increase the cost of the Vento.”
