The Indian arm of Wartsila, the Finland-based power equipment multinational corporation and the biggest provider of industrial power solutions here, plans to enter grid-based power generation and tap oil and gas pumping solutions in the petroleum sector.
Unlike coal-based units which require time to adjust to the fluctuating demands for power, Wartsila’s solutions ranging from 1.5 Mw to 17 Mw can generate power instantly and can operate flexibly according to the situation, said Rakesh Sarin, managing director of Wartsila India.
“There is a huge opportunity and we are in discussions with the government, regulatory authorities and various stakeholders and utilities in the power sector on the need for addressing peak load variations,” he said.
