The West Bengal government today turned down Dunlop India’s plea for a Rs 100 crore soft loan to reopen its Sahagunj unit which was closed since November 30, saying that it was not a sick company.

"The state government cannot help Dunlop as it is not a sick company," Labour minister Mrinal Banerjee said.

This latest development comes in the wake of a meeting between Trinamool Congress (TC) chief Mamata Banerjee and Dunlop India chairman Pawan Ruia on Wednesday, when the former had demanded that the government should provide loan and sales tax concession to the company for reopening its unit at Sahagunj.
