"Protestors blocked tracks and stopped trains between the two Nalasopara and Virar stations demanding more train services to Virar and less hours of load shedding," railway police said, adding that personnel had been sent there in an attempt to disperse the crowds.

There was no indication as to who had organised the protest and no passenger organisation claimed responsibility, police said.

Miscreants had also destroyed station property at Nallasopara while there were no reports of violence from Virar, they said.

The protest started following the scuffle between commuters from Virar and Nalasopara station and soon they were joined by groups who were agitated against 12 hours of power cut in the area on Sunday.

Normally the areas like Virar, Nalasopara and Vasai have power schedule power cuts for six hours but, yesterday, these areas had to face power cut for more than 12 hours.
