After consolidating its market position from the 14th to 12th television-manufacturing company in the country this year, Weston Electronics is now moving its focus from being a television exporter towards becoming a market leader in home appliances business in domestic market. |
On Wednesday, the company held a dealers' meet-cum-product launch in Agra, where it introduced six products, including the country's first indigenously built portable DVD player and DVD recorder, priced significantly lower than similar products launched by multinational companies. |
Talking to mediapersons on this occasion, Sunil Vachchani, managing director, Weston Electronics, said after launching the country's first indigenously-built colour television in 1983, the company's focus shifted to overseas markets, and, as a result, it had not been able to develop its grip on the domestic market. |
Now, it was planning to re-enter the domestic market with a bang by launching high-end multimedia products that were still not widely available in the country. |
He said the company introduced the country's first 20-inch DTH capable television, apart from a variety of "enhanced function" television sets. |
In other noticeable products, the company also launched India's first indigenously-built portable DVD player with a 7-inch LCD screen for mobile viewing of movies. |
