Whirlpool eyes over 20% marketshare by next year-end

Home appliances manufacturer Whirlpool today said it is hoping to take its marketshare to over 20 per cent by the end of the next year with a series of launches aimed to add more consumers.

"Our overall market share, including refrigerators, washing machines, air-conditioners and microwave ovens is 16 per cent and we are expecting to achieve 20 plus by next year end," Whirlpool India Vice-President (Marketing) Shantanu Das Gupta told reporters after unveiling several appliances.

Whirlpool has 16 per cent market share in washing machines, 22 per cent in refrigerators, 8-9 per cent in micro-wave and airconditioners, he said.

 

"We hope with that with the new launches we will be able to achieve 20 plus market share by next year end" he said.

On the new launches for which the company has invested Rs 20 crore, he said that they would market the product, depending on the response amid economic slowdown.

Last year, the company had spent around Rs 60 crore for advertisements, he said.

The new models, which include the basic Splash and other variants like WhiteMagic 1-2-3' and 'Professional-Series' were newly launched coinciding with the company's centenary year celebraton.

"While the WhiteMagic 1-2-3 range has nine new models, the rofessional range has two models," Das Gupta said.

Whirlpool also proposes to launch two semi-automatic washing machines by April, he said, adding that the company would invest $1 million for it.
