Wipro is understood to have elevated Rajan Kohli, the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of its IT business as the global business head of banking vertical. Kohli’s appointment comes at a time when Sriram Srinivasan, who was earlier Heading the Banking vertical is going on a 'sabbatical to pursue some social causes', sources close to this development said.
During his last almost 17 years of stay with Wipro, Kohli has spent almost 15 years in the banking and financial business. Before assuming the role of CMO of Wipro’s global IT services business in 2009, Kohli was the heading US Sales for the company’s Banking and Financial Services vertical.
Rajan who holds an engineering degree in Electronics & Communications, is also an alumni of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore.
Wipro has been trying to strengthen its BFSI practice for the past few quarters as the company’s management feels it is lagging behind the peers. In the fiscal ended March 31, 2011, banking, financial services and insurance contributed about $1.3 billion to Wipro’s overall revenues. This is about 27% of Wipro’s IT services revenues.
