Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, the hydraulics business of Wipro Limited, has announced that it plans to set up a large manufacturing facility in China to cater to both local Chinese clients as well as global customers having a manufacturing presence in China.
To be located at Wujin Hi-tech Industrial Zone (WIZ) in Changzhou, China, the manufacturing facility will be operational towards the middle of next year, Anurag Behar, chief executive of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, said.
“We are very excited to be in China which is the world’s largest market for hydraulic cylinders and related products. We have done much better in developing markets in India and China, in the last fiscal. The infrastructure facilities and support services offered at WIZ are absolutely outstanding and we would like this unit to develop and expand as a global manufacturing hub — not just for the Chinese market but also for customers in the entire region.” Anurag Behar, chief executive of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, said.
Wipro’s China plant will manufacture high pressure precision hydraulic cylinders and tipping systems for operations like CNC machining, robotic welding and induction hardening. The company will leverage the nearby industrial areas to develop a high quality vendor base for sourcing of raw materials and machined components. Behar said, the company will mostly employ locals to run the manufacturing facility in Changzhou.
Wipro Infrastructure Engineering already owns eight manufacturing plants across the world, including four in Sweden, one in Finland and three in India. The company also plans to establish a service network to support the products across China to cater to the needs of end users.
