Wipro Technologies, a subsidiary of Wipro Limited, has merged its telecom service provider and product engineering services divisions. The new entity, to be known as Telecom & Product Engineering Solution (TPE), will contribute $1 billion to Wipro's $3.2 billion top line.

Wipro has taken this decision to provide integrated services and solutions to the telecommunication industry. The entity is expected to help Wipro approach clients in the telecom space as a complete solutions provider, sources close to the development said.

No official comments were available from Wipro as they are in a silent period, just weeks prior to announcing their results. Close on the heels of this development, the company has appointed Rajesh Ram Mishra, vice-president, operation and competency, Product Engineering Solutions, as the chief technology officer (CTO) of TPE. It is believed the company will make a formal announcement to this effect after its annual results are made public on April 17.

Mishra, who has been working with Wipro for almost 17 years, will report to Ramesh Emani, president of product engineering, as well as to Divakaran Mangalath, CTO of Wipro Technologies.

Currently, the product engineering services vertical is the biggest growth driver for the company, contributing about 31 per cent to Wipro's annual turnover. Telecom service providers vertical contributes about 6 per cent to the company's turnover.
