The future of India's communication sector depends on the faster adoption of wireless technologies and government and regulators should not take steps that would hamper this, said Patrick Gelsinger, senior vice president and chief technology officer, Intel Corporation.

According to Gelsinger, India should say no to copper-based communication networks and move on to an optic fibre-based network.

"Build fibre based network as far as possible and use wireless for connectivity for the last mile. Scaleable fibre networks and cheaper wireless networks hold the key," he said while addressing a conference here today.

Pointing out the steps that the economy as a whole should take to ensure a faster adoption of wireless technologies, Gelsinger said most governments look at communication as a source of revenue by charging a high license fee.
