All clearances regarding the 300-MW Lakhwar hydel project in Uttarakhand would be issued by July 15 and its construction is expected to begin by August this year, a top Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (UJVNL) official has said.
UJVNL Chairman Subhash Kumar said this assurance was given to him in a meeting by Union Water Resources Secretary Dhruv Vijay at New Delhi, according to an official release.
Kumar said 330 million cubic litre water would be collected in the reservoir of Lakhwar project, to be built at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore, and out of which 165 million cubic litre water would be given to Delhi for drinking purpose. Another 165 mcl would be used by Uttarakhand for irrigation purpose, he said.
Kumar said the Union Secretary has described the project very important and said that the project would be instrumental in resolving water scarcity problem in Delhi.
The work on the project would begin by August this year, he said.
