Work for construction of the Tata Motors car plant was progressing peacefully at Singur in Hooghly district, Industry Minister Nirupam Sen said today.

Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting, convened by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, to review the law and order situation in the wake of acquisition of land for the industry, Sen said: "Work is going ahead peacefully at Singur."

Home Secretary P R Roy, who also attended the meeting, said there was no prohibitory order in force at Singur. He, however, reiterated that section 144 Cr.PC might be reimposed there if required.

The Calcutta High Court had struck down the reimposition of prohibitory orders at Singur on February 13.

The West Bengal Krishijami Raksha Committee, headed by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, is scheduled to organise a public meeting at Singur tomorrow.

Roy said that an all-party meeting would be held again at Nandigram in East Midnapore district, but its date was yet to be decided.

An all-party meeting was held earlier at Nandigram on February 13 where it was resolved to end violence.
